Counselling for Depression

London-based services tailored for depression-related issues

You feel tired and down, but you can't take the mask off.

That’s what depression does to you. I work with people just like you, who are constantly being told how colourful the world is, but they can’t manage to see those colours. You perhaps tried to write down how you’re feeling, but the page stayed empty – and you realised you could not have described it any better.

Some insights about depression

Depression has meaning. There is always a reason, even if you are not aware of what that could be. Mapping out the mental process underneath your depression will help you deal with it for good.

Depression is linked to other mental health struggles, such as high levels of anxiety, low self-esteem, or addictions. Physical symptoms or bodily illnesses may be common as well.

Depression is not about sadness. Feeling low, sad, or tired is just the external appearance of the process taking place internally. It is our reaction to the internal turmoil that needs to be looked into.

We all have bad days but when whatever caused them is dealt with, the negative feelings are behind. Depression is the opposite – you might have better days, but the  negativity is there.

Depression is different for everyone. Although there are common features, the manifestations of depression can also vary a lot and this is linked to individual circumstances.

About Me

I am a qualified London-based counsellor with an extensive background in Psychology and one of the areas that I specialize in is depression. Some clients are aware of what might have triggered their depression, while others cannot think of a single reason for their depression. I work with people who are experiencing it for the first time, while others have lived with it for so long that it feels like second nature. They all have one thing in common – depression is impacting their lives and they want to get rid of it.

In working with depression, the focus is on:

  • the internal experience of depression.
  • the external context that triggered the depression and sustained it until now.
  • the underlying emotional dynamics of the depression.
  • potential patterns of intensity – i.e. it gets worse around holidays, a celebration, or winter months.
  • the impact on the client’s life in the here-and-now.

Psycho-education plays an important part in my counselling work – I do my best to help the clients get acquainted with psychological concepts and frameworks. This will enable them to continuously expand their self-understanding long after we have finished working together.

I’m a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society, the British Psychological Society and the Association of Christian Counsellors. Counselling can help people live better lives.

How your life could look like when depression is addressed

  • You will regain the vitality you long for and deserve. You’ll have ups and downs just like anyone else but you’ll have the energy required to take ownership and deal with the challenges rather than drift along.
  • You will see improvements in both your mental and physical health and this will enable your growth across different areas of your life – from relationships to your career and your presence in the community.
  • Through the process of mapping out the depression’s emotional dynamics, you will gain a better self-understanding. This awareness is a strength you’ll take with you into the future.
